The Outback Solar & Hydrogen Production Facility is designed to position Australia as a global green hydrogen leader, leveraging vast solar resources to produce hydrogen at export scale.
While Package 1 prepared the site and Package 2 delivered the power generation backbone, Package 3 activates the plant’s core commercial function — converting solar power into storable, transportable green hydrogen.
This is the highest-value stage in the project, directly tied to long-term hydrogen supply contracts with both domestic industries and international buyers.
About Package 3
Package 3 includes the procurement, installation, commissioning, and optimisation of the full hydrogen production chain:
- Electrolyser System Installation – High-capacity proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers capable of producing thousands of tonnes of hydrogen annually.
- Water Treatment & Purification – Reverse osmosis and deionisation systems to prepare feedwater to required purity for electrolysis.
- Compression & Storage – Multi-stage hydrogen compression systems with high-pressure on-site storage tanks designed for safety and efficiency.
- Liquid Hydrogen Handling Systems – Cryogenic units for converting gaseous hydrogen to liquid form for export and transport.
- Loading Infrastructure – Facilities to safely transfer hydrogen to road tankers or future pipeline links.
- Automation & Safety Systems – Advanced control systems ensuring production efficiency and compliance with Australian hydrogen safety codes.
